IELTS is accepted by most UK, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand academic institutions. In the United States it is increasingly gaining recognition as an alternative to Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test.
* IELTS is not recommended for candidates under the age of 16.
IELTS is jointly managed by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) through more than 500 locations in 120 countries. STEP administers IELTS tests throughout Japan.

Implementation of Security Enhanced Personal Identification: - In accordance with world-wide IELTS regulations, security enhanced personal identification system will be implemented on test day effective from February 2012. You will need to produce a valid passport at the registration desk and will be asked to have your photograph taken. This is mandatory for every candidate.
Please bear in mind that you are still required to submit 2 passport-sized photographs for your IELTS application.@It is important to submit your photographs before the submission deadline in order to complete your IELTS application. - For more information, please refer to FAQ.

- 2010/02/04 Important policy change about IELTS candidate photographs.
- In line with advice from government immigration agencies, a change to the regulations relating to IELTS candidate photographs was implemented from January 2010. This policy applies to IELTS candidates world wide. Candidates registering after 20 January 2010 must not wear glasses in the photographs they submit for IELTS registration. Thank you for your understanding.
