Venues & Dates

Details on test-day procedure.

  • step1
    Before you leave home

    Make sure you :

    • Have the ORIGINAL copy of your passport, used for registration of the test.
    • Have a coloured copy of your passport?
    • Have pencils and erasers.
    • Leave any valuables at home.
    • Please refrain from bringing valuables with you. Eiken Foundation of Japan will not be responsible for any loss or damage to your belongings.
  • step2
    When you arrive at the venue
    • We recommend that you arrive at the exam venue NO LATER than the Reception Start Time indicated on your confirmation notice.
    • Leave all your belongings including cell phones in the luggage room. You are only allowed to take the following items into the reception and the test room;
      • Valid original passport (copies unacceptable)
      • Pencils (mechanical pencils, pencil caps, pens, etc. are not allowed)
      • Erasers (without cover)
      • Water (no other drinks allowed) in a transparent bottle with the labels removed.
      • You are NOT allowed to bring in watches into the test room. To check the time, please use the clock(s) in the test room.
      • There are pencil sharpeners and tissue papers in the test room.
      • A coloured copy of the passport you registered
    • Visit the bathroom before you go through the reception.
    • Go through the reception. Your passport and your pockets will be checked. After the reception, follow the invigilators’ lead and go through test-day finger scanning and photography. On the photographing, we ask you to follow the IELTS regulation (e.g., taking off your eye-glasses and etc.).
    • Look for your candidate number and seat location on the seating plan at the reception or in front of the test room.
    • Enter the test room and find the desk label with your name and candidate number on it. Once you enter the test room, you are not allowed to leave until the end of the test.
  • step3
    At the Beginning of the test

    Please note the following instructions;

    • All instructions are given in English. Listen carefully to all instructions given by the test day Supervisor.
    • Check your desk label carefully. If you find any discrepancy (spelling mistakes, wrong date of birth, passport number etc.), please inform the invigilator at the end of the written test.
    • If you need any clarification, raise your hand and an invigilator will assist you.
  • step4
    During the test
    • Candidates are not permitted to leave the room during the test except to go to the toilet.
    • If you wish to leave the room, quietly raise your hand and wait for an invigilator to escort you. Note that while toilet breaks are permitted, no extra time will be given for a toilet break nor will any extensions to test time be given.
      • No one is allowed to go to the toilet while instructions are being given, during any part of the Listening and Speaking Test, the last 10 minutes of each part of the Written Test, and while papers are being collected and counted after each test. If you leave the room for any reason during the above, you will be considered to have withdrawn from the test and you will not be allowed to return to the test room or take the remainder of the tests. Nor will your results be released.
    • Please stop writing and put your pencils down when you are instructed to do so. Candidates who fail to do so may be disqualified.
    • The IELTS for UKVI may be conducted in the same room as the non UKVI IELTS. In such a case. reception area and the written test room will be video recorded in accordance with the UKVI regulations.

  • step5
    During the Speaking test
    • Arrive at the reception at the Speaking test venue by the Check in Starting Time written on your confirmation notice.
    • Go through the reception. Your passport and your pockets will be checked. You will need the ORIGINAL copy of your passport, used for registration of the test.
    • Follow the invigilators’ lead and dispose your belongings at the assigned luggage area.
    • Wait until your name is called by the invigilator or the examiner.
    • Once your name is called, bring your passport with you and enter the test room. (The Speaking test lasts between 11 to 14 minutes.)
    • When you finish your Speaking test, collect all your belongings and go through the reception for checkout. You should leave the test venue immediately.

    Schedule

    Speaking test will be held between the time listed below;

    • For 2 Day sessions:9:30 ~ 19:30
    • For 1 Day and other public sessions : 13:00 ~ 19:30
    • This may change depending on the test venue and the conditions of the test day.
    • Candidates will be assigned an individual Check-in Starting Time
    • We are unable to respond to requests for changes to test time and/or test day for the speaking test.
    • Candidates who do not present the same passport will not be allowed to take the test. No refund or transfer of test date will be permitted.
  • step6
    General rules and regulations

    During the test you must not:

    • Attempt to cheat, copy the work of another candidate or disrupt the test.
    • Use or attempt to use, a dictionary, pager, spell-checker, electronic recorder or mobile phone for the duration of the test.
    • Bring a wrist watch into the test room.
    • Talk to or disturb other candidates once the examination has started.
    • Remove any materials used during the examination. This includes, but is not limited to, examination papers, answer sheets and working paper.
    • Take wallets, invitation letters, cases for glasses, propelling pencils, caps, hats, blankets, food, handkerchiefs and medicine which has not been given pre-approval by the IELTS Official Test Centre into the test room.

    Any candidate doing any of the above will be disqualified and will not receive a Test Report Form.
